Review: George @ Asda 'Be Mine'

Hello everyone :)

Whilst I was in Asda last week, I picked up a pastel lilac nail polish, 'Be Mine'. It's the first real pastel polish that I've bought, and I thought for once, I could be bang on trend for Spring. I think pastels look great on long nails, and mine are the longest they've been for an absolute age, so I couldn't wait to crack it out. However, the enthusiasm stops here.

Two coats - see how the colour looks a bit flat?

What George @ Asda say: Nothing. I imagine they had trouble finding the words to sum this up positively.

What I say: Love the colour, hate the product.

Application

What George @ Asda say: Nothing of any use. In all seriousness, having just looked at the bottle it says "Quick dry nail varnish."

What I say: Streaky, messy, chalky. The consistency is terrible. It took 3 coats to cover the entire nail properly, then it bubbled. Great... To it's credit, it does dry fairly quickly. When dry it looks semi-matte. What? Really? Yes. I wasn't expecting that. Do other pastels do this, or is this just a George thing? I applied a topcoat to give the colour some shine. You can't see from a distance, but even after 3 coats and a top coat, the whites of my nails can still be seen. I do like the colour, but I will not be using this polish again. Big thumbs down Asda. Some people have been saying that Be Mine is comparable to China Glaze's Light As Air. Now I don't own Light As Air, so can't comment, however I've seen lots of manis using Light As Air, and I can say that Be Mine only looks similar under a flash. But that's just my opinion. Yours may differ :)

Have you tried the pastel polishes from Asda? Did you fare any better than me? Do they apply better with a base coat? Let me know :)

  1. I have no idea why it sucked so much for you - these can be one coaters for me if I'm careful enough! Although yes they are a little bit chalky so two coats and a topcoat normally sorts that right out for me. That's crap that it didn't work for you :( xo

  3. Ah no I had the same problem with this polish! I picked up 4 a few weeks ago - 2 of them pastels, 1 creamy vibrant orange and a sparkly dark grey. I gave up on application, they seemed to look worse with a second coat and I just ended up taking them off, they were extremely streaky. The only one I had a positive experience with was Deceit - the sparkly dark grey, that one only needed 2 coats and applied really well xx

  5. Rachel - Oh that's not very good. Maybe it wasn't just me then. I bought Deceit ages ago and absolutely love it. I also really like Blue Lagoon and Indigo Dazzle :) xox

Charlotte - I know, I love the colour, it's so pretty. Yes, I think Barry M will definitely be a safe bet, and I shall be buying the entire pastel collection from them :D xox
