Review: Maybelline 'The Falsies' Mascara

Hello :)

A while ago, I was in Superdrug and I got sucked in by a 3 for 2 deal on Maybelline. Deciding to give in to the hype, I picked up The Falsies mascara. I wasn't going to cos I hated the advert - I'm sorry but how silly did the model look? I only ended up getting it because it was the only other Maybelline item I would see myself using. I know everybody and his (or her) dog has reviewed this, but I thought I'd add my perspective into the mix.

So did I end up looking like this? Of course I damn well didn't. A) I can't physically photoshop my own eyes in reality and B) Eyeliner like this is reserved for the goth undercurrent in society. In my opinion anyway.

Product

Maybelline say: Instant false glam in a tube. The Falsies Mascara delivers a false lash look; giving you a full set of voluminous, bold, fanned out lashes and the appearance of no gaps from any angle. The Pro-Keratin and Fibre enriched formula is designed to deliver immediate results, distributing volume and visible intensity to your lashes. The patented 'Spoon' shaped brush helps fan lashes out. The Falsies Mascara is designed to give the appearance of no gaps and spaces, In a wink lashes you didn't even know you had look visibly thickened!

I say: For a mascara that aims to make you look like you have false lashes on, I'd have to say this is a bit of a fail. It added a bit of volume but nothing that overly wowed me or that I couldn't get from any other mascara. The 'Spoon' shaped brush didn't help fan lashes out. And as for giving the appearance of no gaps and spaces, that was only helped by the black eyeliner that I had on my top lash line. A bit of a fail there Maybelline.

Application

Maybelline say: Use spoon brush with the dip side against lashes

I say: I followed the directions. It's not as easy as it sounds. Especially on your lower lashes! I have to say I was not impressed with this mascara at all. Give me my £5.99 17 Wild Curls any day :D

So there's the proof - my eyes do not look like Erin's (the poor Maybelline model). There's a clear message here - do not believe the stupid advertising hype. And if you don't believe me, read this post  and this post by Rowena!! Check out the rest of her mascara posts - they're very insightful!

  1. Love Rowena's no bullshit posts! I blogged about them too recently. It really annoys me that big brands can get away with advertising mascara using false lashes. It's akin to advertising a nail growth product and using false nails. Or advertising a car and using a spaceship! As long as you pop a little disclaimer in the corner in teeeny writing it's all good! xx

  3. I frigging hate Maybelline's mascara ads, but I usually like Maybelline's mascaras. Although it clearly doesn't make them look false, I do think it makes your lases look really nice!

  4. Disappointing :-( I tend to stick to cheap mascaras then I'm pleasantly surprised when they turn out to be good :-)

I tagged you for an award on my blog by the way

  5. I'm not a fan of this mascara either... the poor model does look ridiculous. I got this from Avon recently http://avonshop.co.uk/product/make-up/eyes/jillian-dempsey-for-avon-professional-lash-booster.html
and thought of you! I think it's great and it should be reviewed by you ^_^

  6. Haha I tried my sister' Falsies mascara and it gave me a very natural look, so I think it is definitely a massive fail, the whole Falsies thing. Although, so far all the mascaras that I've tried that promise me 'false lash effect'' (yeah max factor, I'm talking to you!) have given me a rather natural look. I just think the whole false lash thing should be left to the actual false lashes :P I still think your lashes look quite nice with this one though :)
(lol random but the word verification is 'fatti' - gee, thanks, are you trying to hint at me or something?! :P )

  7. I love it! It's my second fave after the Max Factor false lash effect mascara. I prefer the 'spoon' brush to normal brushes and actually find it easier to do my lower lashes :S My only qualm is that it isn't as waterproof as others I've had.

  8. Hannah - They're brilliant aren't they? I think that's how I found her blog! It's daft isn't it, shouldn't be allowed. Then we can see how crap they really are haha xx

Justine - Glad you liked it! xx

Leanne - Same haha. This is the first Maybelline mascara I've tried I think. Thanks xx

Laura - Exactly haha! Thank you xx

itsalovelycake - Yay glad I'm not the only one! Oo thanks for the recommendation, I'll check it out. That's if my Avon lady ever returns! Hehe I might just purchase it just for you :) xx

Nats - Exactly lol it's not what I was expecting at all! I quite like the Max Factor False Lash Effect but it still didn't give a false lash effect per se. Haha yes, and those brave enough to attempt applying them! Thanks :) Zomg naughty Blogger!! I'll give it a telling off for you lol xx

Beauty's Bad Habit - Oh really? Ha I managed to get it everywhere. I'm just not good with big brushes lol xx

  9. So glad I never bought this :)
I'm going to stick with my others - your lashes don't actually look that bad though :P

  10. Haha thanks :) They're not bad but my other mascaras make them look more impressive than this one does xx

  12. I have indeed, but since I found out they test on animals, I'm avoiding the brand :) xx

  13. I refuse to buy mascaras that have stupid adverts like this Maybelline one. I generally think if they have to compensate that much in editing and touch ups then the product cant be that much to rave about in the first place!!

  14. Well said! I think I'll have to agree with you on that one, and judge mascaras on their advertising :) xx
