Review: e.l.f. Studio Cream Eye Liner in Black

Hello possums :)

I bought this a while ago as I wanted to try something different from the kohl liners that I use religiously. Whilst there was a free shipping offer on, I snapped it up whilst it was in stock. I really, really love this eye liner. To see why, read on :)

Product

What e.l.f. say: Creates smooth lines that are defined and precise. Smudge-proof, budge-proof, water-resistant coverage. Achieve thin or bold lined eyes with ease

What I say: I cannot praise this eye liner enough!! I absolutely love it. The formula is smooth and highly pigmented enabling the creation of really defined eyes. Once it's on, it's on. It's definitely smudge-proof, budge-proof and water-proof. Once applied it stays in place until you want to remove it.

Application

What e.l.f. say: Dip a thin brush into the formula, swirl around gently until brush is saturated with colour. Swipe off any excess formula on the top edge of the pot. Trace a line along the top lash line from the inner corner towards the outer corner of the eye. If desired, apply on the lower lash line as well. Remove with an eye make up remover.

What I say: I have to admit, I don't own an eye liner brush. I was having a rummage around in my make up collection and it suddenly dawned on me that I had a set of nail art brushes that I don't use because to me, they are useless. Lo and behold there was a brush the perfect size and shape for eye liner. Win! So I used this, gently swiping it across the surface of the cream eye liner to load a little product onto the brush. There's no need to swirl it around in my opinion - you'll just get too much on your brush. I gently applied, starting from the middle of my upper lash line, working to the outer corner, then I go back in and trace a thinner line from the middle of my upper lash line to the inner corner so it graduates in thickness if that makes sense, i.e. a thin line that starts at the inner corner, gradually getting thicker towards the outer corner. I've found that I only need to swipe the brush into the formula twice for one full application to the upper lash line. It's highly pigmented so you don't need to go over and over it. I have used this on the lower lash line too, but only to about half way along, then blended out with a cotton bud for well defined eyes when I didn't want to use a kohl pencil on my water line. I've found that standard make up wipes are adequate to remove this eye liner :)
